Community College Nursing Program Admission Requirements:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Microbiology
  • Chemistry (Check with your Community College academic adviser for a recommended Chemistry course. The CSUMB nursing program only requires a college level chemistry course. This may not meet the prerequisite needed for your particular Community College. Please consult with a Community College academic adviser.)


CSUMB Admission Requirements (The "Golden Four"):

  • English 1A
  • Oral Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • Statistics (includes Basic Statistics, Elementary Statistics, Introduction to Statistics, Quantitative Literacy or Social Statistics. Be advised that the statistics course is strongly recommended to have been completed within the last five years. There is no other recency requirement)


CSUMB Graduation Requirement:

Proficiency in a Second Language* is considered an essential component of the CSUMB nursing program. Language proficiency requires you to be able to communicate with culturally appropriate manners at an intermediate level in a world language other than English. This requirement is achieved through one of the following:

  • Completion of the equivalent of an intermediate-level course in a language other than English at the college level with a grade of C or better.

  • May be completed at the Community College

Community College equivalent CSUMB intermediate Spanish 201 courses:

Cabrillo, Span 3 or 16 = Span 201 at CSUMB (articulated)
Hartnell, Span 3 or 3s = Span 201 at CSUMB (articulated)
Gavilan, Span 2a or 12a = Span 201 at CSUMB (articulated)
MPC, Span 2a = Span 201 at CSUMB (articulated)


*CSUMB requirement in fluency in a second language includes American Sign Language.
